Great concrete contracts

 

Local 150 ratified a historic agreement with Cemex in February. Ron Cannizzaro served as chief spokesman, backed up by a tough fighting committee, reports Local 150 Secretary-Treasurer Dale Wentz proudly. “The end result of these negotiations was double-time pay, and $8 an hour over three years—the highest wage increase that the members have ever seen.”

Similarly, at Syar Concrete, Wentz reports that members were able to secure a $5 an hour raise the first year of the contract,

Many firsts at TransDev Napa

Joyful sounds of celebration rang throughout the Teamster Union Hall in Vallejo on Sunday, February 27 when the 78 members at Transdev Napa voted to ratify a five-year agreement, reports Business Agent Dustin Baumbach. 

Although this location has been under Teamster contract for decades, there were several “firsts” in this contract, Baumbach reports. “It was the first long and secure five-year agreement, and the first time these fixed-route drivers, paratransit drivers, and maintenance mechanics saw wage increases anywhere near these percentages.”

Sysco Fresno drivers finally vote for union representation

After multiple attempts over the last 15 years to organize one of the last remaining non-union Sysco foods in California, Teamsters Local 431 is proud to announce that, as of February 16, 2022, the 54 Sysco employees in Fresno voted 2-1 to join the Teamsters family.

Local fights to get member’s job back after management error

Local’s organizer tapped to take reins of IBT organizing dept.

Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien has named Local 856 Director of Organizing Chris Rosell as the International Brotherhood of Teamsters National Director of Organizing.

UC Admin Officer 2 workers get salary increases, better pay ranges, and more

The Teamsters Local 2010 Bargaining Team for Administrative Officer 2 (AO2) workers held the line on improved salary ranges and step increases for AO2s across the state and came to a tentative agreement with the University of California in early March.

Transportation Dept. proposes oral fluid testing for drugs 

On February 28, 2022, the Department of Transportation (DOT) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) proposing to amend the transportation industry drug testing program procedures.  Several changes are being considered but the proposed regulation most worth noting would add oral fluid testing to the existing urine drug testing procedures for safety-sensitive workers including commercial truck drivers.

Governor signs COVID sick pay back into law

On February 9, 2022, Governor Newsom signed into law the renewal of COVID sick leave pay. A similar law had been in efffect in 2020 and expired in September 2021 when the virus levels had improved.

This law (SB114), which will go into effect in 10 days, is retroactive to January 1, 2022, and requires employers to provide up to 40 hours of COVID-19 supplemental paid sick leave to a covered employee, if the employee is unable to work or telework because the employee is:
