What are TAP & TARP?
TAP stands for Teamsters Assistance Program. TARP is the Teamsters Alcohol Rehabilitation Program.
TARP's scope of practice is substance abuse issues. TARP offers employee awareness trainings on the effects of drugs and alcohol, as well as trainings for employers, unions, and shop stewards, on the signs and symptoms of substance abuse in the workplace, and the 10 steps to reasonable suspicion testing protocol.
TAP is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). EAP’s provide confidential assistance to individuals and families who are experiencing personal problems. TAP counselors are trained in conducting assessments and making referrals or providing information for problems that are identified in face-to-face or telephone interviews. TAP also conducts trainings for employees, shop stewards, Business Agents and managers with the objective of increasing the number of people who use the EAP.
There is no cost to Teamsters for this benefit; costs are covered by the employer as part of the Health and Welfare medical benefit. TAP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Who Sponsors TAP and TARP?
TAP and TARP are both sponsored by Joint Council No. 7. TARP was originally sponsored by Joint Council 38 and kept its name and identity when the two councils merged in 2010. TAP and TARP services are available to Teamsters (and their eligible dependents) who work for employers who provide medical benefits through participating Health and Welfare Trust Funds. Union members should check with TAP/TARP, their Local or employer to know if they are eligible for services.
Why Do I Have the TAP/TARP Employee Assistance Program (EAP)?
TAP/TARP services are provided to you and your family so that Teamster members and their families may seek a better quality of life when problems arise for individuals in the family or for the family itself.
