Teamsters build for 10th Bud Car Show and holiday drive

The Tenth Annual Bud Classic Car Show took place on Saturday, September 28 at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Fairfield. More than 5,000 people attended and enjoyed activities that included 300 classic cars, live music, great food, a silent auction featuring Budweiser collectibles, a beer garden, and numerous vendors. The event helped raise $32,000 for the Families Helping Families Annual Thanksgiving Baskets of Hope event in November.

Over 300 volunteers met at the Fairfield brewery on the Saturday before Thanksgiving for the Baskets of Hope event.

Members ratify agreements in three key industries

Local 665 announced the completion of negotiations and the ratification of three contracts in the bus, auto service and parking industries in San Francisco.

SFO Shuttle, which provides services for on-airport employees and the public in and around the busy San Francisco International Airport, agreed to a three-year deal, which will increase wages by $3.50 an hour over the life of the agreement, as well as increasing the employer contribution to the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension and maintaining benefits for the health plan.

Teamsters, Labor push landmark bill protecting gig workers over the finish line

For the past several months, Teamsters have traveled to Sacramento to lobby the state senate and assembly with one key goal: to pass AB5 and put a stop to worker exploitation in the “gig” economy. A million California workers are denied key workplace protections—including the minimum wage—because their employers falsely label them as independent contractors. But that practice will now come to an end as the legislature passed the bill and the governor signed it on September 18.

Local 601 merges with Local 856, creating new Food Processing Division

In June, with a resounding 90% yes vote, the members of Teamsters Local 601 voted to merge with Local 856. Their goal for the merger is to increase member strength, build on the current Teamster Central Valley infrastructure, and advance organizing opportunities while maintaining local control. Local 856 is fully committed to meeting those goals.

The merger, effective August 1, establishes the creation of the Teamsters Local 856 Food Processing Division, with a board of rank-and-file leaders headed by Director Ashley Alvarado.

I felt it was time for a podcast created by and for the rank-and-file, so I created one.

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Jeremy Rich and I am the Chief Steward at UPS’ small, but growing, Oakley building. I am also the Warden of Local 315. I have been at UPS for almost 20 years, the last 18 years of it as a package car driver. I originally started in UPS’ Concord building as a peak season part-time hire in 1999.
