Acknowledging the value of garbage collectors gains one member national attention

Aaron Meier empties about 800 garbage cans every day, rain or shine. He first caught the world’s attention with a series of tweets in mid-March as Americans were just beginning to come to terms with the pandemic and what it would mean for their livelihoods.

“I’m a garbageman, I can’t work from home and my job is an essential city service that must get done,” tweeted Meier, a Local 350 member who works for Recology Sunset in San Francisco.

After big actions, Allied Waste Services members ratify contract

After months of negotiations and nation-wide actions against the Republic Services, Teamsters Local 350 members at Allied Waste Services of Santa Clara voted unanimously to ratify a new five-year contract. Among the various improvements were substantial increases in wages and pension contributions, full maintenance of benefits, and the protection of adequate staffing levels that Republic Services sought to eliminate.

Los Altos city workers ratify new contract

On July 18, 2019, Teamsters Local 350 members employed by the City of Los Altos unanimously voted in favor of a new three-year Memorandum of Understanding.

“This contract provides the security and advancement our members sought for the next three years,” said Local 350 Recording Secretary and lead negotiator Juan Coca. “This lucrative M.O.U. provides more than just an increase in wages; it delivers full health care coverage, a path to enhancing the retiree benefits and recognition for our unit’s efforts in the form of incentive pay.”

Following strike sanction vote, Recology drivers get good contract to ratify

Recology clerical unit ratifies new contract

The small but vital clerical unit at Recology South Valley and representatives of Teamsters Local 350 met on July 19, 2018, to discuss what they would like to see on their next contract. After nearly 7 months of hard-nosed negotiating, led by Recording Secretary and Business Representative Sergio Arranaga with the assistance of Adriana Munoz-Noriega, they were able to successfully hammer out a 5-year contract that the members ratified unanimously.

RIP Mauricio Garcia – Allied Waste Services of Daly City

We are tremendously saddened and shocked to hear of the death of Brother Mauricio Garcia, who died on January 16, 2019 while performing his job with Allied Waste Services of Daly City. CalOSHA is investigating the cause of the incident.

Brother Garcia was an exemplary worker and loyal member of Teamsters Local 350 for 17 years. He worked side by side with his two brothers who are also long-time members. Their father was a Shop Steward at the same company for many years.

Strong contract at Allied Waste Daly City

Teamsters Local 350 representatives began negotiations for a new contract with Allied Waste in March, 2018. After months of talks, the team came up with a contract that includes maintenance of benefits and a significant wage increase that the members ratified by an overwhelming margin.

Union wins wrongful termination grievance

On June 6, 2018, after almost a year-long fight, the arbitrator in Jaime Rivera’s grievance ordered San Francisco-based Recology to immediately reinstate him with full seniority and make him whole for any wages and benefits lost as a result of his wrongful termination.
