Sweeping labor-law reform protects workers from federal attacks

Teamsters continue to push workers-first agenda

Teamsters Joint Council 7 has been showing up in force and flexing our political power on a local and state level in support of our membership. In July, Republic Services waste management workers represented by Local 439 went on strike to get their first contract. They extended the strike lines throughout our Joint Council at other Republic sites. Elected officials in Stockton and throughout the Bay Area stood with our members and put pressure on Republic to resolve the strike.

First Student Drivers Organize with Teamsters Local 853

Fight for higher education funding is working!

About 60 Local 2010 members who work at California State University campuses throughout the state descended on the California State Capitol on April 29 to speak with legislators about how state budget cuts could undo the raises and salary steps hard-won through multiple strikes and other major collective actions in 2023.

The legislative lobby day was held jointly with members of California Faculty Association and Academic Professionals of California—collectively representing nearly 25,000 CSU workers.

Republic Services members achieve major wage increases, more, in new agreement

Teamsters at Republic services in Fairfield, ratified three historic contracts in May (Garbage, Recycle Center, and Clerical). The garbage unit alone has wage increases of at least 40% per member over the course of a five-year agreement. Increases in health and welfare, pension, and adding the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday further sweetened the deal. Advocates at Latinas Contra Cancer join Teamsters Local 853

Workers who guide women battling cancer have won a significant victory for themselves. On April 17th, fifteen employees at Latinas Contra Cancer (Latinas Against Cancer) voted to become Teamsters. A card check election overseen by Jean Cohen from the South Bay Labor Council and Maria Noel Fernandez from Working Partnerships USA, determined that an overwhelming majority of the employees wanted to join Local 853.
