Teamsters Working with High-Tech Employers to Ensure Safety

(SAN FRANCISCO—January 18, 2018) –– Teamster shuttle bus drivers safely navigated through an apparent pellet gun attack on commuter shuttle buses this week along Highway 280. Buses sustained damage in the attack, but there were no reported injuries to the drivers or passengers.

Two out of the five buses damaged were operated by Teamsters Local 853 members working for Loop Transportation and Compass Transportation and transporting employees for Apple.

Amazon Shuttle Drivers Join Teamsters

Drivers for Amazon Contractor WeDriveU Join Local 853 via Card Check

(OAKLAND, Calif.—December 12, 2017) – Commuter shuttle drivers for Amazon chose Teamster representation today via card-check agreement. The approximately 40 drivers are employed by Amazon contractor WeDriveU in Santa Clara and South San Francisco to transport Amazon staff.

“We are the union for high-tech company drivers and we are pleased Amazon drivers chose Teamster representation,” said Rome Aloise, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 853 and President of Joint Council 7.

High Tech Commuter Shuttle Policy Will Enhance Safety for Drivers, Passengers

(SAN FRANCISCO—DECEMBER 12, 2017) –– The Teamsters Union applauds the passage of a commuter shuttle policy by the Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) that will enhance safety and transportation planning. The policy will benefit transit and shuttle passengers, as well as thousands of Teamster drivers who operate tech commuter shuttles in the county.

The policy passed unanimously by VTA includes a permitting program for high tech company shuttle buses that use public bus stops.
