Elected Officials Join Forces with Teamsters Union for Good Jobs, Safe Streets

The Teamsters Union applauds the Oakland City Council for passing a resolution in support of Senate Bill 915 (SB 915), legislation that will allow California’s local governments to regulate autonomous vehicles (AVs). SB 915 has strong bipartisan support and is part of the CARS legislative package on autonomous vehicles that the Teamsters are advocating for in Sacramento to protect good jobs and public safety. The Los Angeles County and San Mateo County Boards of Supervisors passed resolutions in favor of SB 915 earlier this month, and a resolution has also been introduced in San Francisco.

CALIFORNIA TEAMSTERS, ELECTED OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE REINTRODUCTION OF AV HUMAN OPERATOR BILL

Teamsters, California lawmakers, and labor allies gathered at the statehouse in Sacramento today to announce the reintroduction of legislation requiring a trained human operator behind the wheel of self-driving trucks weighing more than 10,000 lbs. Assembly Bill 2286 (AB 2286), formerly Assembly Bill 316 (AB 316), is part of the CARS package that the Teamsters are advocating for in Sacramento, alongside Senate Bill 915. New Leadership at Teamsters Joint Council 7

The Executive Board of Teamsters Joint Council 7 has unanimously named Peter Finn as President, effective February 1, 2024.

Jeff Berdion will remain as Vice President and has been appointed to the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Fund.

John Bouchard will now serve as Secretary-Treasurer and Don E. Garcia as Recording Secretary. Tony Delorio and Dale Wentz will continue to serve as Trustees.

“I’m honored by the opportunity and look forward to working in partnership with the leaders of the 18 local unions that make up Joint Council 7,” said Finn.
