Strong partnership at Gillig secures industry-leading contract

The success of the Labor movement depends on many variables. Two of the most important are the solidarity of our members and our leaders’ ability to work with politicians and government organizations to create partnerships and laws that support workers in our communities. If done well, the results are our members’ good contracts.

Five Local 853 business agents sworn in as Alameda Labor Council Delegates

Teamster Local 853 would like to recognize five business agents, Gloria Segura, James Long, David Crawford, Ralph Campos, and Jonathan Pinney, for being sworn in as Alameda Labor Council delegates.

These business agents will be responsible for advocating for the betterment of our members in the general Alameda Labor community. They take the concerns of our members and support political agendas in Alameda County.

Teamster trustees improve pension benefits

Building on the strong investment results of 2023, the trustees of the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust (WCTPT) approved major benefit improvements at their January 2024 meeting.

The first of the improvements is an extension of the 1.6% bonus accrual rate effective January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2025. This accrual rate applies to all participants regardless of the years of service the participant has earned. The bonus accrual rate of 1.6% had been set to expire on December 31,

United States Department of Labor Secretary Julie Su meets with Teamsters 853 members – lauds positive partnerships between Union and company

In a visit to GILLIG earlier this month, Labor Secretary Julie Su’s organization tweeted, “Our clean energy transition needs strong partnerships, including between workers and management.  Happy to meet with GILLIG to see their facility creating zero-emission buses, talk about their labor-management partnership, and see the benefits of employing unionized workers.” The Biden Administration is focused on furthering its commitment to Unions across America as a pathway to worker success. This visit, and many others like it, further solidifies their commitment.

SB 915 Will Protect Good Jobs, Public Safety from Dangerous Autonomous Trucks and Cars

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) – California Senate Bill 915 (SB 915), a Teamsters-supported bill that will allow the state’s local governments to regulate autonomous vehicles (AVs), passed overwhelmingly today in the State Senate Local Government Committee. “The Teamsters commend the Senators on the Local Government Committee who supported this bill to protect public safety and good union jobs,” said Chris Griswold, Teamsters International Vice President At-Large and President of Teamsters Joint Council 42“Right now, local communities have zero control over the dangerous autonomous vehicles on their roads. SB 915 will help fix this broken system and keep our communities safe by giving municipalities a voice in the deployment of AVs.”
