Workers at Aramark Commissary in Sacramento Unionize
45-worker unit joins Teamsters Local 150
(SACRAMENTO, CALIF.) — Workers at Aramark commissary in Sacramento recently voted to unionize joining Teamsters Local 150. Teamsters Local 150 in partnership with Teamsters Joint Council 7 have been strategically organizing for months in advance of the critical vote for workers in the unit.
Aramark is a global company providing food, facilities and uniform services to a broad array of industries. Workers in the newly organized unit work at the correctional facilities commissary and are responsible for receiving and processing incoming stock/product, preparing, and completing orders for delivery to inmates at the facility.
Dale Wentz, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 150, said, “We are excited to have the new unit join Local 150. Today is monumental for not only this facility but Aramark workers across California who now know that Teamsters have their back in the fight for a strong contract that includes good wages and improved benefits.”
Workers at the commissary in Sacramento provide a lifeline for families and friends to be able to provide their loved ones at the correctional facility with access to some foods, personal and hygiene supplies, writing materials, and art supplies.
Valentino Edwards, worker at Aramark Commissary, shared, “Our work is changing lives. We provide a service that is critical for the livelihood of all the inmates at the facility. Our vote to unionize will give all of us workers at the commissary a chance to change our lives. A strong contract will mean we don’t have to work two jobs to make ends meet and that we can have access to necessary retirement and healthcare benefits.”
