Workers at Redrock Environmental, Sanitation Service Company  Join Teamsters

The new unit in Madera County is made up of drivers and landfill workers.

(CHOWCHILLA, CALIF.) — On Friday, workers at Redrock Environmental Group voted to join Teamsters Local 431. This vote and victory to join the Teamsters marks a critical step for the new 30-worker unit, the first unit to organize at the company. The workers overwhelmingly voiced support for joining the Teamsters in the lead up to the election, knowing the unit will be backed by the union to fight for a contract that delivers safety at the workplace, good wages and strong health care benefits for workers at the sanitation company.

Redrock Environmental is owned by Caglia Environmental, a waste and recycling collection company in Madera County. Workers serve thousands of residential and business customers in the lower elevations of Madera County everyday including operating the Fairmead Landfill and the North Fork Transfer Station.

Cam Vaughn, Redrock Environmental Sanitation Driver said, “This is an important vote and win for me and my colleagues. We are excited to join the Teamsters and to have the unions support in the fight for a strong union contract that delivers increased safety standards and health benefits on a job that could pose increased health risks compared to other fields of work.”

The new unit at Redrock Environmental Group will join tens of thousands of Teamsters members in the Solid Waste and Recycling Division. The 30 newest members of the division are drivers and workers at the landfill that process trash, green waste/organics, and recycling.

Justin Scott, President of Teamsters Local 431 said, “I want to congratulate and welcome all 30 of our newest members. Despite efforts by the company to try to union-bust and divide the unit they stood together, showing strength and unity. This election victory is giving the company a glimpse into the unity of the unit and how strong they will stand in their upcoming contract fight for better wages and health care benefits as they work day in and day out to serve and keep our communities clean and healthy.”
